Tides is a project commissioned and rendered for the Dublin based experimental musician Allta. The music video for Tides was created using a mixture video footage and audio reactive generative visuals.
The Tides video concerns itself with the repetition of modern life and its subsequent isolation from nature, an isolation spurred on in many ways by technology as we know it in 2021.
Tides also seeks to illustrate a common thread between the world of nature and technology. A quote from Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art or Motorcycle Maintainace was fresh in my mind at the time of this project.
“The Buddha, the Godhead, resides quite as comfortably in the circuits of a digital computer or the gears of a cycle transmission as he does at the top of the mountain, or in the petals of a flower. To think otherwise is to demean the Buddha - which is to demean oneself.” - Robert Pirsig

The generative visuals for the project were created using Touch Designer. The audio was fed into a program isolating each band (highs, mids and lows). These isolated bands were then used to drive the animation cycles of various custom generative graphics also created using Touch Designer.
The final cut of the video was edited using Adobe Premiere Pro.
